Jack-in-the-Pulpit
$85.00 – $155.00Price range: $85.00 through $155.00
Jack-in-the-Pulpit is said to look like a Sunday-morning preacher ready to deliver his sermon to any passer-by.
These plants are often hard to spot because of their subdued colors. Their small stature and desire for shady, damp areas allow them to blend in with the May Apples and other understory growth. I discovered this little guy while hiking in Arkansas’s Prairie Creek State Park. It was hiding from the sun under the shelter of a bluff.

What a delightful discovery!
It stood alone in a golden field with a few clouds and a blue sky as a backdrop. It is rare to find a tree like this, unencumbered by electric lines, housing developments or other noise.

$85.00 – $155.00Price range: $85.00 through $155.00A colony of Wild Sweet William is a true find. It’s common to find them scattered here and there in woodlands and roadsides, but large groups are more unusual. I found these in an area protected by the Nature Conservancy at Springfield (MO) Conservation Nature Center. At the city’s southeast edge, the Center spreads over an 80-acre tract bordering Lake Springfield. You can find ducks, otters, deer, foxes, and other wildlife, as well as native plants, trees and aquatic plants.

$85.00 – $155.00Price range: $85.00 through $155.00Retro dinette sets, metal napkin holders, old signs and memorabilia fill the space, but the dust and cobwebs indicate it hasn’t been open in years!
According to the sign, they established the Spencer community in 1886. My research indicates they built the store, café & barbershop, garage and service station in the 1930s.
The road in the photograph is one of the few remaining sections of the original concrete roadbed of Route 66 dating back to the 1920s. (Source.)
